Well, I was wrong. It has rained in Dubai quite a bit since I’ve moved here. It actually sprinkled a little this afternoon, but last week it poured! You see, this really isn’t a big deal in the states because we have something called….drains. In Dubai there aren’t any, so when it pours it floods and no one knows how to act or what to do…..people hiring tow trucks to get their cars home, putting themselves in a shopping cart and using a stick to get themselves to their car in a parking lot, using a jet ski on the streets, and taking a ton of photos (which I’m guilty of doing…it’s rain I know…but, I live in Dubai!). All of that, gave me my first “rain day” on Thursday. The great thing was, I woke up Thursday morning to sunny skies!
Besides the “great flood” in Dubai last week. In February, I ended up getting tickets to the Desert Classic golf tournament. It’s played at Emirate Golf Club. I think one of my new hobbies is going to these tournaments. Golf, golfers, beautiful weather, cold beers, and some of Dubai’s skyline….you can’t beat it!

I also went on my first yacht cruise with some teachers from DAA and a few others from ASD (American School of Dubai). It was a great way to see Dubai and spend time floating in the Arabian Gulf.

This past weekend I went to the Dubai Food Festival. It’s in an area called Media City at the amphitheater. Restaurants from all over Dubai come and create a small menu of tastings from their kitchen. We did a wine tasting, listened to live music, and played Life Sized Jenga. I was able to finally try a bite of a camel burger….lets just say I’ll probably stick to beef.

Playing in the rain, watching Rory play golf, laying on a yacht, and enjoying food festivals….sounds like all I do is have fun! Even though life is great here, teaching here is demanding! We just finished reports and let me tell you…these are not like reports at home. They take F.O.R.E.V.E.R.! It was a long two weeks of finishing grades (rubrics..not ABCDF), filling in grades per standard, and creating comments in 5 different areas for 24 students. Let’s just say Spring Break can’t get here soon enough! I can’t wait to tell you all about my travels to Thailand and Indonesia. Until next time! Missing everyone!
