Before heading home this past summer I took about 10 days to travel to Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. Here’s a shortened version of all I did!
I was traveling with my friend Jennie and we started our trip by flying into Denmark. We were picked up at the airport by Jennie’s family friends Ana and Lasse. They live in Malmö, Sweden which is just a quick drive over the Øresund Bridge. We were lucky enough to stay with them. While in Sweden we drove to the Falsterbo Peninsula where the Baltic Sea and Øresund meet. The peninsula resembles a fish hook. We had coffee and something sweet at a restaurant over looking the water in Skanör. We were able to walk through the square Lilla Torg and ate at a great place called St. Jakob’s. We walked through old town and then tried some beers at Malmö Brewing Co. Ana and Lasse have a beautiful sailboat that we were able to sit on a enjoy the marina view. After all the site seeing each day one of my favorite moments were our dinners. We tried Swedish meatballs and ate delicious sausages and cheeses. Had some taste testings of different chocolates and mustards and of course enjoyed a couple of glasses of red wine.

Next, we took a train to the Copenhagen airport where we took a flight to Bergen, Norway. We then hopped on a bus that took us close to our location of our hotel which was located in one of the main squares called Torgallmenningen. Bergen is pretty small so we were able to walk around and explore. We ate fresh salmon in the fish market and enjoyed a cold Grans Lettol. We took the Fløibanen funicular to the top of Mount Fløyen where took in the amazing views of Bergen. Later, we warmed up with coffee and a pastry and saw the Bergenhus Fortress.

Our next stop was the train station where we took a beautiful scenic route to Voss, where we then caught a bus to Gudvangen. Both routes were absolutely beautiful! Gudvangen is a small village located at the end of Nærøyfjord which is protected by UNESCO. We went kayaking on the fjord and it was just spectacular. We were only here for a full day and then we were off to Flåm by a fjord cruise. Flåm is also another small village, but on the Aurlandsfjorden. Here we took the breathtaking Flåm Railway to Oslo. We were in Oslo for a day where we explored: the Royal Palace, Oslo Cathedral, Grünerløkka (street shops and restaurants), and Vigeland Park.

Last, but not least we took a flight from Oslo to Copenhagen. Here we took a canal tour, shopped and ate in a small cafe in Stroget, enjoyed Carlsberg beer while listening to the Jazz Festival, saw the Little Mermaid, went to the Carlsberg brewery, and walked/ate on the waterfront canal, Nyhavn.
