Nepal!

Hello and happy weekend to everyone!  I started writing about my time in Nepal and as I was writing it just kept getting longer and longer.  So I’ve decided to shorten it a little!

Day 1 Kathmandu

  • Met by Ramila our tour guide and driver Prem
  • Hotel was amazing with a rooftop pool (weather was awesome and almost “cold” after being in Dubai)
  • Went to Boudhanath where we saw the famous Buddha Stupa.  It’s surrounded with prayer flags and prayer wheels.  You watch people walk around and spin the wheels.
  • Tour of a painting school that specialized in Tibetan, Japanese, and Newari Thanka Painting.  They use the smallest of brushes and are meticulous.  The artwork was unbelievable.  They have way more patience than I do!
  • Enjoyed Everest Beer and Momos (Nepali Specialty, like a dumpling) on a rooftop overlooking the city)

Day 2&3 Pokhara

  • Drove 6 hours to Pokhara.  For those of you who know me well I took dramamine before, but the views were spectacular that it distracted me from all the twists and turns!
  • Pokhara had to be one of my favorite stops on this trip.  We stayed in a quaint hotel with a pool and amazing food!  We could walk to everything; Phewa Lake, shops, and restaurants (we ate at Black and White Cafe and Moondance).
  • Cows were everywhere!
  • Drove on Trekkers Highway to watch the sunrise over the Himalayas, unfortunately it was too cloudy to see any of the Himalayas, but it was still beautiful!
  • Went PARAGLIDING!!  I’m pretty sure I felt every emotion possible and I’m sure my parents did as well 🙂 But, once you are up in the air over the hills and Phewa lake it’s the most unbelievable feeling!
  • Visiting Temple Bindavishani, Devils Fall (known as Holy River or White River), went through Old Pokhara, went down into Gupteshower Cave, and ended with a boat ride (small row boat) on Phewa Lake.
  • Boat ride with beers on Phewa Lake!  A great way to end the day.  We were surrounded by Queen Forest and stopped at an Island in the middle of lake with another temple.  Once we were on the Island there was a group of Indian women that made us feel like celebrities.  They crowded around the four of us and wanted picture after picture. It was the craziest thing!  They were so grateful and kind!  I’m guessing we were the first Americans (two of us with Blonde hair) that they had seen!
  • Ended our day poolside!

Day 4 Drive back through Kathmandu to Nagarkot

  • Drove another 6 hours back through Kathmandu up 7,210 ft. to Nagarkot.
  • Barely any finished roads on this drive and while on the side of a hill = nervous and sitting on the edges of our seat!
  • Once to our hotel it was breathtaking!!  Our rooms overlooked the Himalayas and even though it was still cloudy we got a glimpse of their peaks!!
  • Relaxing rest of the day enjoying a bottle of red wine and the views!

Day 5 (Last day) Bhaktapur and Kathmandu

  • Drive down was less nerve wracking
  • Went through the town of Bhaktaput where there was a lot of earthquake damage
  • Saw the towns oldest temple and a famous Peacock window that has been in Nepal since the 17th Century

I would have to say the feeling you get while in Nepal is like no other.  Their culture is very kind and gives you a calm feeling the moment you are there.  It’s very different from the busy life in Dubai.  So, if you ever get a chance to go to Nepal… do it!

Missing everyone, but I believe my mom has started a countdown to Christmas and it’s somewhere around 72 days!  xoxo
